Otonabee-South Monaghan township
Gravel road suspension and alignment for Otonabee-South Monaghan drivers
Roughly 15 to 25 minutes north of most of the township
Otonabee-South Monaghan drivers cover more unpaved and frost-damaged road in a week than most city vehicles see in a year. Washboard on the concession roads, loose gravel, and the annual spring heave along the township roads down toward Rice Lake all attack the same components: struts, bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends and wheel bearings.
The wear pattern is distinctive. Constant small-amplitude vibration wears bushings and shock valving long before the mileage would suggest, and a single hard hit in a frost-heaved dip can knock the alignment out enough to scrub a set of tyres in a season. Most township vehicles we see are not broken — they are quietly out of specification, and the tyres are paying for it.
4 Aces Auto Center is fifteen to twenty-five minutes north of most of the township at 485 Parkhill Rd E. We inspect the whole steering and suspension assembly on the hoist, then align all four wheels and hand you the before-and-after printout so you can see what changed.

What this work covers
- Four-wheel alignment with printed before-and-after readings for camber, caster and toe
- Strut, shock and spring replacement, including the coil failures common on salted rural vehicles
- Ball joint, tie rod end, control arm and bushing inspection and replacement
- Wheel bearing diagnosis — a very common gravel-road failure and an Ontario safety item
- Tyre wear reading, so we can tell you which component caused the wear rather than just selling tyres
- Post-frost-heave season inspection each spring, which is when most township alignment work is needed

What Otonabee-South Monaghan customers ask about this work
- How often should a gravel-road vehicle be aligned?
- Once a year is sensible for regular gravel and township road use, ideally after the spring thaw when the frost heave damage has happened. Beyond that, align any time you replace steering or suspension components, or when you notice uneven tyre wear or a pull.
- My steering wheel is straight but the car pulls. Is that alignment?
- It can be, but it can also be a dragging brake, a tyre with a broken belt, or uneven tyre pressures. We check those first, because aligning a car that is pulling for a mechanical reason just moves the problem around.
- What does a wheel bearing sound like as it fails?
- A cyclic hum or growl that changes with speed and often gets louder or quieter when you steer gently side to side at speed. On gravel-road vehicles it is one of the most frequent failures we see, and it is a safety inspection failure item once there is measurable play.
- Do you road test after suspension work?
- Always. Township roads are the real test, and a car that feels right in the parking lot can still be wrong at 80 km/h on a washboard surface. We drive it before you do.
- Are my tyres worn out or is it the alignment?
- The wear pattern tells us. Feathered edges, inner shoulder wear and one-side wear each point at different causes. Bring the vehicle in and we will read the tyres on the hoist and tell you which it is before you spend anything.

What our customers say
“Very efficient in repairs even in difficult repairs. They try there best to get the vehicle on the road as fast as they can. Greatful to have a good repair shop to have my vehicle in good repair. Thank you for all your good work.”
“I needed a quick fix on my truck as I am a contractor and needed vehicle. I called 4 Aces and Chris got me in the next buisness day 1st thing in the morning. Was met with Smiles and coffee and excellent service. They had me fixed up and back on site the same morning. 5 Star Service at 4 Aces👍”
“They're awesome. After the bs I've been through with other garages and my car, it was a breathe of fresh air with these guys. Anytime no contact drop off, quick workers and chill as well. I'll be going back!”
“The staff at Four Aces was friendly and efficient. They addressed my problems immediately and had me back on the road in good time after checking the vehicle over for any other issues and reporting the results directly to me. Thank you for your continued service and caring in keeping my vehicle in good and safe shape.”
“I have been very pleased with the service I have received at 4 Aces Automotive Centre. They have solved problems that other facilities were not able to do. The pricing seems fair—certainly comparable to other centres. And they seem very friendly, knowledgable, efficient, and skilled. Once, when they had my car up on the hoist—performing a repair— they detected an additional—and serious—problem. Rather than just telling me what they had found, they took me out into the garage to show me the issue and suggested that I have an auto body expert look at the problem to determine if it could be safely resolved before I had 4 Aces proceed with some additional repairs. I trust their work and they seem to genuinely care about the safety of my vehicle.”
