Lakefield and the Village of Selwyn, Ontario

Auto repair for Lakefield drivers

About 15 minutes south of Lakefield via County Road 29 / Water Street

Lakefield sits at the top of the chain where the Otonabee meets Katchewanooka Lake, and the driving up there is a different animal from city driving. County Road 29 runs fast, the concessions off it are gravel, and a good share of the local traffic is towing something — a boat in July, a utility trailer year-round, a snowmobile deck in February.

That mix produces a distinct repair pattern. Gravel roads chew through bushings, tie rod ends and wheel bearings. Trailer work means brake controllers, seven-pin wiring, cooling systems that run hot on the hills, and brakes that carry far more load than the vehicle's own weight. And when the lake-effect band sets up off Katchewanooka, Lakefield gets snow that Peterborough does not.

We are roughly fifteen minutes down Water Street from the village, and plenty of Lakefield and Selwyn customers pair a service appointment with errands in the city.

Lakefield vehicles tend to arrive with a particular history: cottage-road washboard, boat trailers behind them all summer, and a winter of salt on County Road 29. That combination is hard on suspension bushings, wheel bearings and trailer wiring, so those are the first things we look at when a Lakefield vehicle comes in for something else entirely — better you hear it from us in June than from the side of the road in July.

What Lakefield roads do to vehicles

  • Gravel concession roads north and east of the village accelerate suspension and bushing wear
  • Trailer towing loads brakes, cooling systems and transmissions well beyond ordinary use
  • Lake-effect snow off Katchewanooka can arrive before the city sees anything
  • Unlit county roads make headlight condition and aim a genuine safety item, not cosmetics
  • Longer distances between services mean a breakdown is a tow, so preventative maintenance pays double up here

Every service we offer

Lakefield drivers ask us these questions

How far is 4 Aces Auto Center from Lakefield?
About 15 minutes. Take County Road 29 / Water Street south into Peterborough and turn east on Parkhill Road — we are at 485 Parkhill Rd E, just past Armour Road.
Can you service my trailer wiring or brake controller?
Yes. Seven-pin wiring, trailer plug repair and electric brake controller installation and diagnosis are regular work for us, and it is common among Lakefield and Selwyn customers with boats, utility trailers and horse trailers.
Do gravel roads really wear a car out faster?
Noticeably. Constant vibration loosens bushings and tie rod ends, stone impacts damage the underbody and cooling stack, and dust plugs engine and cabin air filters far sooner than the manual assumes. We shorten filter intervals for customers driving gravel daily.
My vehicle tows a boat every summer. What extra maintenance does that need?
Transmission fluid on the severe-service interval, cooling system condition checked before the season, brake measurements more often than annually, and the trailer's own bearings and lights inspected. Towing multiplies the load on every one of those systems.
Should Lakefield drivers run winter tires even with all-wheel drive?
Yes. All-wheel drive helps you accelerate; it does nothing for stopping or steering on ice. On an unlit, unsanded county road at 7 a.m., stopping distance is the number that matters.
Can I drop the car off and do errands in Peterborough?
That is exactly how most of our Lakefield customers do it. Drop it in the morning, run errands in the city, pick it up on the way home. Let us know your timing when you book.
Do you do Ontario safety certificates for Lakefield-area buyers?
Yes. We are a licensed Motor Vehicle Inspection Station and issue Ontario Safety Standards Certificates, including for private-sale vehicles bought in the county.
What if I break down north of the village?
Call us at (705) 748-4223 before arranging anything. We will tell you whether it is safe to drive in and, if it is not, help coordinate the tow so the vehicle arrives here rather than somewhere it has to be moved again.

I have been very pleased with the service I have received at 4 Aces Automotive Centre. They have solved problems that other facilities were not able to do. The pricing seems fair—certainly comparable to other centres. And they seem very friendly, knowledgable, efficient, and skilled. Once, when they had my car up on the hoist—performing a repair— they detected an additional—and serious—problem. Rather than just telling me what they had found, they took me out into the garage to show me the issue and suggested that I have an auto body expert look at the problem to determine if it could be safely resolved before I had 4 Aces proceed with some additional repairs. I trust their work and they seem to genuinely care about the safety of my vehicle.
