An oil change is the appointment where problems get caught early — if the shop actually looks. Every oil service here includes a real inspection: brake measurements, tire tread and pressures, belt and hose condition, suspension play, exhaust condition, and a look underneath for leaks and salt damage. You get told what we found, including the things that are fine.
Oil choice matters more in this climate than most people realise. A Peterborough winter regularly puts cars through cold starts well below −20 °C, and short trips across town never get the oil hot enough to boil off the moisture and fuel that collect in it. Both argue for staying on schedule and using the exact grade the manufacturer specifies.

Oil, Lube & Filter Service — the questions we get asked most
- How often should I change my oil?
- Follow your manufacturer's interval, which on most current vehicles running full synthetic is 8,000 to 12,000 km or once a year. If your driving is mostly short winter hops around Peterborough — home to work to the grocery store, engine never fully warm — treat it as severe service and shorten that interval.
- Is full synthetic worth the extra cost?
- In this climate, yes, and for many engines it is not optional. Synthetic flows at −30 °C when conventional oil is still thick, which is precisely when the engine is most vulnerable. If your owner's manual specifies synthetic, using conventional can void warranty coverage.
- I barely drive. Do I still need an annual change?
- Yes. Oil degrades from moisture, fuel dilution and acid formation, not just distance. A car that does 4,000 km a year of short trips is harder on oil than one that does 20,000 km of highway driving.
- Do you use the specific oil my car requires?
- We stock and use the grade and specification listed for your vehicle — dexos, VW 502/504, MB 229, Ford WSS and the rest. The wrong specification can trigger timing chain wear or emissions faults on some engines, so it is not a place to substitute.
- What is included in the multi-point inspection?
- Brake pad and rotor measurements, tire tread depths and pressures, all fluid levels and condition, battery test, belts and hoses, suspension and steering play, exhaust condition, lighting, wipers, and a visual underbody check for leaks and corrosion. You get the results, not just a green sticker.
- How long does an oil change take?
- Typically 30 to 45 minutes with the inspection included. Call ahead and we will schedule you rather than have you wait.
- My car burns a bit of oil. Is that normal?
- Some engines — certain Subaru, Audi and BMW designs in particular — consume oil by design and the manufacturer publishes an acceptable rate. What matters is the trend. If consumption is increasing, we investigate rather than just topping it up.
- Should I change the cabin air filter too?
- Once a year is reasonable here. Peterborough has a long pollen season and plenty of gravel-road dust in the county; a plugged cabin filter cuts your defrost airflow right when you need it in December.
