Scheduled & Preventative Maintenance
Maintaining a vehicle to the manufacturer's schedule at an independent shop does not void your warranty — Canadian consumers are entitled to have scheduled maintenance performed wherever they like, so long as it is done to specification and documented. We perform it to specification and we document it, so your service record holds up.
We also adapt the schedule to how you actually drive. Ontario's climate and Peterborough's mix of short city trips and gravel county roads meets most manufacturers' definition of severe service, which shortens several intervals. Following the mild-service column on a car that never leaves town is how transmissions and differentials quietly wear out early.

Scheduled & Preventative Maintenance — the questions we get asked most
- Will servicing here void my new-vehicle warranty?
- No. You are entitled to have scheduled maintenance performed by the licensed shop of your choice using parts and fluids that meet the manufacturer's specification. Keep the invoices — we itemise the work and the specifications used precisely so your records stand up.
- Does my driving count as severe service?
- Most Peterborough driving does. Short trips where the engine never reaches full temperature, extended cold starts, gravel roads, trailer towing and stop-and-go city driving all qualify under most manufacturers' definitions. We will show you the severe-service column for your vehicle.
- Does transmission fluid really need changing?
- Yes, despite the marketing phrase 'lifetime fluid'. Automatic transmission fluid oxidises and loses friction properties with heat and time. Changing it on schedule is inexpensive; a transmission is not.
- How often should coolant be replaced?
- Typically every 5 years or 160,000 km depending on the coolant type your vehicle uses. Beyond degrading its freeze protection, aged coolant loses its corrosion inhibitors and starts eating water pumps, heater cores and radiators from inside.
- What should I do to prepare my car for a Peterborough winter?
- Battery test, winter tires, wiper blades and winter washer fluid rated to −40, a coolant freeze-point check, a look at the block heater cord, and confirmation that your heat and defrost work properly. We package that as a single seasonal check in October and November.
- I bought a used car with no records. Where do I start?
- We do a baseline inspection and fluid assessment, then build a catch-up plan in priority order — safety items first, then the fluids most likely to be overdue, then everything else across the next year so it is not one large bill.
- How often should the serpentine belt be replaced?
- Commonly around 100,000 km, but condition matters more than distance. Cracking, glazing and missing ribs are visible on inspection, and a belt that snaps takes out your charging, power steering and water pump at once.
- Can you remind me when service is due?
- Yes. We track your vehicle's history and intervals and let you know when something is coming up, so maintenance stays planned instead of urgent.

“Very efficient in repairs even in difficult repairs. They try there best to get the vehicle on the road as fast as they can. Greatful to have a good repair shop to have my vehicle in good repair. Thank you for all your good work.”
“I needed a quick fix on my truck as I am a contractor and needed vehicle. I called 4 Aces and Chris got me in the next buisness day 1st thing in the morning. Was met with Smiles and coffee and excellent service. They had me fixed up and back on site the same morning. 5 Star Service at 4 Aces👍”
“They're awesome. After the bs I've been through with other garages and my car, it was a breathe of fresh air with these guys. Anytime no contact drop off, quick workers and chill as well. I'll be going back!”
“The staff at Four Aces was friendly and efficient. They addressed my problems immediately and had me back on the road in good time after checking the vehicle over for any other issues and reporting the results directly to me. Thank you for your continued service and caring in keeping my vehicle in good and safe shape.”
“I have been very pleased with the service I have received at 4 Aces Automotive Centre. They have solved problems that other facilities were not able to do. The pricing seems fair—certainly comparable to other centres. And they seem very friendly, knowledgable, efficient, and skilled. Once, when they had my car up on the hoist—performing a repair— they detected an additional—and serious—problem. Rather than just telling me what they had found, they took me out into the garage to show me the issue and suggested that I have an auto body expert look at the problem to determine if it could be safely resolved before I had 4 Aces proceed with some additional repairs. I trust their work and they seem to genuinely care about the safety of my vehicle.”
